Cheap horsepower can be made simply by lowering air intake temperatures. Inexpensive solutions like shielding your air intake system and intake manifold can be done without major modifications.

This intake manifold shield significantly reduces the amount of heat transfer from the top of the engine to the intake manifold. This reduces air-intake temperatures and increases horsepower. Lower air-intake manifold temperatures create a denser air/fuel mixture, creating more power. By reducing the heat radiating up from a V series or boxer engine we are lowering intake manifold temperatures creating a denser air/fuel mixture, which creates more power. We are onboard with Gale Banks and his manifold air density theory; lower intake temperatures lead to more horsepower. The I-M Shield works for both professional engine builders and the garage mechanic.

I-M Shield™ adheres to the bottom of the intake manifold, creating a thermal barrier between the top of the engine and the bottom of the intake manifold. I-M Shield features proprietary KoolCore™ Technology: a dense layer of high temperature fibre material mated to a heat-reflecting surface. Even though most late-model engine intakes are made from reinforced nylon, they can still absorb engine heat which raises the temperature of the air passing through the runners before it goes into the cylinder heads and combustion chamber. The thermal barrier created by I-M Shield prevents that heat from affecting the intake manifold. The air passing through the runners stays cooler, meaning a denser air charge entering the cylinder heads, resulting in increased engine power.

Installation:

Heavy-duty adhesive will stick to any clean, semi-smooth surface. Simply de-grease the surface, wipe with pre-paint cleaner or isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, then firmly press the I-M Shield™ onto the underside of the intake manifold. Use the provided edging tape to finish the installation of this intake manifold heat shield.
